Strengthening the University as driver of the socio-economic and environmental sustainability in the process of European harmonization of the fishery sector

General objective: To improve the content and quality of vocational and technical education in Turkish Universities
Specific objective: To improve the quality and enlarge the accessibility and attractiveness of the VET for the operators of the fishery sector by sewing the educational services to their needs and boosting a permanent cooperation between the University and the private sector.
Target Groups
The Fishery Faculty of the Recep Tayyip Erdoğan University (Rize)
30 fishermen (trained in the first cycle of a new VET course)
10 trainers (lecturer and researchers)
28 Fishery cooperatives
1 Association of fishery cooperatives
60 students of the existing Vocational school
2 enterprises processing fishery products.
Final Beneficiaries
2000 fishermen
The coastal communities of the Provinces of Rize and Artvin.
The inhabitants of the provinces of Artvin, Rize and Trabzon as potential consumers of the fish products (1.500.000 people).

Estimated Results
1 A multi-stakeholder Protocol Agreement between the Recep Tayyip Erdoğan University and the operators of the fishery sector is established (fishery cooperatives and processing enterprises)
2 One Vocational course sewed specifically for the fishermen is created
3 One VET institution and 10 lecturers are trained and provided with tools for supporting the operators of the fishery value chain in the process of harmonization with the EU legislation.

Logistic and didactical organization of a new VET course for improving fishermen professionalism
2.1 Logistical and didactical planning of the course;
2.2 Information campaign for presenting the new course to the fishermen
2.3 Collection of applications and preparation of the teaching materials;
2.4 Official opening and realization of the course;
2.5 Management of the course
Working Package 3:
Training the trainers, providing them with training and education tools on the crucial current and future normative challenges and making them ready to play a leading role for the process of harmonization with the EU legislation.
